Everyone dreams of being mentored by the likes of Steve Jobs or Elon Musk. Some of us want to be coached by the likes of Marshal Goldman but can't afford him.So ,its pretty clear that we need external inputs and kicks on the butt when we grow complacent and there is no better person to do it than a mentor.
Despite this knowledge, one fears reaching out to prospective mentors feeling that they are too powerful/busy and wont entertain someone as small as me.The void of not being mentored remains though.
Some of the ways of reversing this and actually landing yourself a mentor are:
a)Reaching out fearlessly on linkedin or other legit social media
b)Clearly state your purpose when you write to them and tell them what you admire in them/would like to emulate or how they can help you improve
c)Be humble-let them know xyz are areas which you think need work and how grateful you would be if they helped you on them
d) Be willing to volunteer-If your prospective mentor runs a business or online platform, be willing to help them with it for free in exchange for mentoring.
Also, after you land a mentor, staying fluid and open to learning helps immensely.
