What is social media addiction
Checking social media like FB,twitter,Instagram,snapchat multiple times a day or posting on these platforms multiple times a day and checking for likes /comments

Why is social media addictive
It has been designed to be interesting and the updates make it all the more fun

What is difference between normal surfing and addiction
Normal surfing
  • Normal surfing is when you’re normal when you surf-you do not get a special high from it
  • You do not experience withdrawal symptoms if you’re wifi is down or if your network is down
  • You can stay away from social media for few days without feeling like you’re recovering from an avalanche
  • You check social media 1-2 times a day and whatever happens there doesn’t affect you much


Addiction
  • You check social media every 15 minutes-at work, during meetings, in the cab
  • You post regularly and insist on likes and views to feel validated
  • Posting selfies in new clothing all the time
  • Posting details of every check-in, no matter how trivial
  • If people ignore your post you feel depressed
  • You immediately recharge your phone for data if your wifi is down, you can’t spend more than 10 minutes away from social media


What addiction signifies
  • You don’t have a life or anything good going for you
  • Your followers or likers also don’t have anything going for them-your mutual likes are an ego-stroking session
  • Your followers are low quality individuals for most part who do not have goals or work plans
  • You are constantly seeking validation and have esteem issues
  • You do not love yourself sufficiently-your existence is dependent on acceptance of others
  • You do not handle rejection well
  • One of your parents was narcissistic
  • You are likely to have other addictions as well

Can it be fixed?
Yes, but slowly and over days

How to fix it?
  • Have goals and work on them
  • Love yourself sufficiently
  • Do not seek validation from others
  • Withdraw from it for few days and surf only 1-2 times per day
  • Realize you’re just a target for social marketers and are not really getting anything of tangible value on these sites
