How to successfully negotiate a raise at a new job when you're underpaid

There are loads of people who are underpaid on their current job.The reasons for this can be numerous-a small organization, financial downsturn, the company having a bad year, downsizing of teams and so on.People think changing jobs is the way to beat this-that I’ll get a raise on my next job, but typically the raise is not enough to get you upto market rate.Despite multiple job changes, you are still underpaid .You feel worthless and your self -esteem takes a hit.You don’t even want to try for a new job anymore.

How does one fix this:

1.Know your worth-Know what a person of your experience, qualification is being paid in your geography.Use market salary surveys and websites like glassdoor and payscale.Establish a range of salaries for your said role. Also, don’t let them use your current salary as a basis to pay you less than market rate.
2.Never state a number-On a job interview, when asked how much you would want to be paid, always state a range based upon your research and push for top of range.
3.Negotiate-Put your best foot forward, sell your skills and negotiate till the numbers rise in your favour.
4.Don’t appear desperate-Don’t agree to the first offer on the table. If it is not to your liking, appear cool and continue to talk about it with the manager. If they want you, they will do it.
5.Be willing to walk away/don’t settle-If it’s a lowball that won’t change, be willing to walk away and keep looking till you find one which is fair.

This fear is actually a fear of rejection .Due to this fear the individual gives too much in the early phases of the relationship so that they can please their partner and to ensure their partner likes them. They take responsibility for their partners feelings and want to make sure the partner stays happy and does not reject them. But this too much giving from the fear of rejection makes them feel trapped. The solution to this is to develop stronger boundaries, not take rejection personally and religiously practice inner bonding to develop a very strong sense of adult self. Let us see examples in of a person named Raymond who is 44

Hello everybody, This is my first post today and I thought i'd start with a super-common yet extremely important topic-an asshole /insecure boss . We spend a large part of our lives at the workplace and are often plagued with horrible managers. Also, it is extremely unfortunate that we do not choose our managers but they are assigned to us. A good manager can lead to motivation, growth, skill improvement and promotions while a bad one can create unhappiness, tears, emotional pain, anger and frustration. Lets first delve into the characterstics of an insecure manager: Micromanages Does not trust you Does not stand up for employees in front of clients Is overtly critical Requires updates every 5 minutes Cannot appreciate good work Feels threatened by employees who are better than him Creates and fuels team politics Plays favorites Openly insults employees Uses control as a means to feel secure Creates artificial sense of urgency Is never at peace The most im
