Insecure Boss Syndrome and how to deal

Hello everybody,

This is my first post today and I thought i'd start with a super-common yet extremely important topic-an asshole /insecure boss .

We spend a large part of our lives at the workplace and are often plagued with horrible managers. Also, it is extremely unfortunate that we do not choose our managers but they are assigned to us.

A good manager can lead to motivation, growth, skill improvement and promotions while a bad one can create unhappiness, tears, emotional pain, anger and frustration.

Lets first delve into the characterstics of an insecure manager:
  • Micromanages
  • Does not trust you
  • Does not stand up for employees in front of clients
  • Is overtly critical
  • Requires updates every 5 minutes
  • Cannot appreciate good work
  • Feels threatened by employees who are better than him
  • Creates and fuels team politics
  • Plays favorites
  • Openly insults employees
  • Uses control as a means to feel secure
  • Creates artificial sense of urgency
  • Is never at peace

The most important thing here to realize is that these behaviors have nothing to do with you and you cannot change them. The control he tries to assert is in response his inherent insecurity and will be visible in all aspects of his life.

The second most important thing is to understand that you cannot change him , his insecurity can only be managed.

Some tips to manage it include:

  • Be friendly to him
  • Give him frequent updates
  • Assert your boundaries
  • Focus on work over politics and show it to him via your actions
  • Don't get affected by his little ploys

There are times when on an asshole scale the bosses behavior is horrible and you cannot put up with it anymore. In such case seek to be moved to a different department or quit the job.

There is nothing more important than peace and growth.A paycheck can also be obtained in a new job.

Your well-being must not be compromised.

  6. I’ve learned they provide invaluable opportunities for developing executive leadership skills and learning ‘what not to do’ when managing people who work for you. You just have to be proactive in looking for them and ready to practice some real self-leadership.

The blog anyway deals a great deal of what a social anxiety at such places can lead to, and what exactly a narcissist relationship looks like .

    Good job , great article ! 😊
